Welcome to the TDG website

The Technology and Development Group was formed in 1979 with the objectives of introducing a development perspective into the technological and social subjects covered by the different departments of the university, and to study the role of technology in the development processes of the South. Over the years large numbers of students have complemented their major field of study by carrying out internships in developing countries under the supervision of the TDG. Staff has been active in research on a variety of development problems.

As a result of steadily increasing interest in this field among undergraduates, and steadily increasing specialization of research within the TDG, the two sections that existed within the TDG - Technology and Sustainable Development in North-South Perspective (TSD) and International Management (IM) - are now formally considered to be separate groups within the university, and each has its own Chair and its own website.

Technology and Sustainable Development in a North-South Perspective (TSD)
TSD is primarily concerned with the governance of technology in the development processes of the South, focusing on technology in natural resource management, energy and water. Gender aspects of technology and of governance are crosscutting concerns. TSD is responsible for the minor "Sustainable Development in North-South Perspective: As the World Turns". Under the new enlarged faculty MB, TSD has become associated with
CSTM, the Center for Clean Technology Management and Environmental Policy.
