Research interests

Nel Wognum (1947) has a Masters Degree in Medical Informatics, which she obtained in 1986 at the University of Leiden. In 1990 she defended her Ph.D. Thesis on explanation in knowledge-based systems at the University of Twente. From 1990 to 1996 she has worked as an Assistant Professor in the Knowledge-Based Systems group at the same university. From 1996 until now she has been working in the Operations Management group.

The current research interests of Dr. Wognum are collaboration in product and process development with a special emphasis on the use of technology in such collaboration. She has been involved in several European projects and networks, among which FREE (Fast Reactive Extended Enterprise) and CE-Net (Concurrent Engineering Network of Excellence). She co-ordinated research in the IST project BEST (Better Enterprise SysTem implementation), which started in June 2002 and ended in December 2004. She is currently involved as a key member in the AsiaLink programme Mi-EIS (CN/ASIA-LINK/021 (105-576)), aimed at developing master level teaching and professional training modules in managing implementation of enterprise information systems. Dr. Wognum is President of the International Society of Productivity Enhancement (ISPE).

From December 1, 2005, she has officially retired, but will stay active in managing the Twente activities in the Mi-EIS programme and in the international MBA with Hunan University.
